Welcome to the NTSD Performing and Visual Arts Department! Here in Neptune, all students are exposed to all five art forms, beginning in elementary school. As students grow, their opportunities increase through various performing ensembles such as Instrumental and Choral Music, after school Visual Art Clubs, the NHS Marching Unit, our annual High School Theatre productions, and the Dance Troupe. Students have opportunities to share the Art with the greater community through outside performance opportunities and artistic contests.

All elementary students receive weekly instruction in General Music and Visual Art.  Our programs focus on the creation of Music and Art, performance, presentation, and responding to artistic works in a grade-appropriate academic manner.  These programs also have unique elements based on each respective building.  In General Music, students learn the fundamentals of music through performance.  Before leaving elementary school students will have acquired a basic knowledge of musical elements, performed a variety of genres and styles, and gained experience using various instruments.  Through General Music, students are also encouraged to participate in the elementary ensembles. Through the Visual Arts, students are encouraged to be creative.  Students receive instruction in the fundamental and elements of art, color theory, and instruction on specific artistic techniques.  Our curriculum incorporates teaching art history by focusing on learning specific attributes from a time period, and then applied through art-creation.  Students are given numerous opportunities to present their artwork to the school community.

Neptune Middle School offers all students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade the opportunity to participate in our Concert Band or Choral Programs. Students have the opportunity to perform with one, or both programs, continuing instruction from their respective elementary school.  Through participation in NMS Music Ensembles, learners develop skills for success, such as leadership, resiliency, organization, and time management.

The Michael T. Lake Performing Arts Center, located at Neptune High School hosts many of our events, and hosts outside organizations such the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.

Our Arts programs are in full academic alignment with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, and the 2014 National Core Art Standards.
