The Elementary Social Studies Department maintains a curriculum that guides students through a historical perspective of our world and the connections of history to our current society. The curriculum is aligned with the NJ Amistad Commissions goals, which highlight the integral part African Americans have played at every turn in our nation’s history. In addition to learning social studies content relevant to their grade level, students also foster reading, writing and thinking skills through guided discussions and activities.

Welcome to the Social Studies Department!  In order for our students, citizens of the 21st century, to become competitive in a global economy, they must have a meaningful social studies background.  The High School Social Studies department offers three required courses; World History (modern world), United States History I, and United States History II.  In addition, we offer Advanced Placement United States History, Advanced Placement American Government and Politics, Anthropology, Psychology I, Psychology II, Sociology, Race, Class and Gender, and The Vietnam Era: A Multimedia Perspective.  The Social Studies Department encourages all our students to go above and beyond the 3-year state graduation requirement for history and take advantage of our varied and robust elective program.    The Middle School Social Studies department offers three required courses; Grade 6 Civics, Grade 7 World History, and Grade 8 World History.
